All Together Now

Portable Planetarium

In a gymnasium in a school in Long Island City, a bouncy-house planetarium! The idea is brilliant and the show was excellent. (Narrated by Galaxy Quest actor Tim Allen).

Students asked questions.
The Sun is a mass of incandescent gas
Milky Way
Tim Allen talks impact crater on the moon
Tim on exploring on the moon
Getting nauseous.

I Wonder…

Word is getting around and the wands are starting to wander! (No? You think of a better ‘wand’ pun then.)

Here are some photographs of 277Q at 311 students creating 3D printed plastic bubble wands. The templates helped.

A Computer Lab at Q277 at 311

Would you just look at these photos? Headphones stored nicely; students working with google sheets and pixel art; some code.org dance party; flippity.net on the iPad to keep things random; and a bit o’ Mr. Doob javascript fun at the end!

Last one:

Shout out to teacher Peter Wang for making it look easy!

View from the River and on the Ferry

I was leaving a school in Long Island City, Queens, and took the ferry back to my office in Manhattan. As I got closer to the city I zoomed in a bit on this cool skyscraper by the East River.

And what do you think of this view of the New York skyline?

ADL Room

Here are some photos from an Activities for Daily Living classroom in Long Island City, Queens. There are centers for copying papers, shelving groceries, making change, and doing laundry.

Check out the computer closet too.
