According to the NYCITYLearn webpage, before I can take an online sexual harassment course, I have to specify “the Hispanic.”
In fact, each of the three categories require me to submit an answer. Why is this a requirement?
Here are screen shots of options for each category:
Also interesting: For Hispanic and Race, the last options is the innocuous statement “I do not want to disclose.”
However, for Gender, the not-wanting-to-disclose statement equates my “not wanting to disclose” with “not knowing my gender.” And instead of writing “I do not want to disclose,” it writes “I choose not to disclose.”
Lastly, there is no way to not complete this and take the course. For whatever reason, in the minds of New York City administrative services, telling them my gender|race|Hispanic-ness — or actively not telling them — is a prerequisite for learning about preventing sexual harassment in the classroom.
