Stop-Motion Animation

The students made stop-motion animation videos. We started with dry erase markers on white boards, and then advanced to play-doh and clay.

This is a behind-the-scenes look.

Paper flip animation, and some bulletin board art.

Printing iPad Stands for Stop-Motion Animation

Our Makerbot Replicator Z18 was hard at work printing iPad stands for the iPad Movies: Stop-Motion Animation workshop held at the district office. Here you can see four of them mid-print.

Here is an iPad stand supporting a phone. Note how we taped the phone to the stand, and the stand to the table, to minimize jiggling.

Frog

This is a demonstration of a making a frog jump using the software Animation-Ish. It is running at 8X speed.

I saw it at Scholastic Corporation HQ in SOHO.

Animation Studio with Unlikely Name

I joined a class on a field trip to 100 Chickens animation studio in Brooklyn, NY. We met with several different members of the studio, including founder Jennifer Oxley, a music engineer, a writer, an animator, and a managing supervisor. Several students had the opportunity to record inside their slick sound booth, reading a script for characters of an upcoming TV show. An animator showed us how to draw Emily Elizabeth from Clifford the Big Red Dog, which the studio is creating as a new animated show for Scholastic. The studio won Emmy awards for their PBS television show Peg and Cat.

All in all? It was so cool! Best field trip ever!
